Director of Rugby Announcement

IRAA is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Hedger as our new Director of Rugby.

Sean is highly regarded, and most recently the winning head coach for Sydney University in this year’s Shute Shield. Sean was also announced as “2022 Coach of The Year” for the competition.

Very excited to be part of this initiative. I’m passionate about developing rugby players and coaches. I’ve been coaching for over 25 years and look forward to passing on the lessons I have learnt to players and coaches alike.

Sean Hedger

Sean will be responsible for IRAA’s rugby operations, for the development of coach and player education content and camps during the calendar year. He will be liaising with the local, regional, state and national rugby communities and our stakeholders, for the roll out and delivery of IRAA’s rugby programs.

Sean is a career rugby coach. He commenced his work with NSW Rugby as a development officer in the late 90’s, before transitioning to Queensland where he worked with the QRU and coached various club and representative age group teams, before escalating into age group National Teams with the Australian Under 20 sides and the Rugby Australia programs for talent identification.

Sean spent a few years coaching with the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby and the inaugural NRC Melbourne Rising outfit, before returning to the Gold Coast to assist Bond University as the Director of Rugby and Head Coach with the Bull Sharks in the Queensland Premier Rugby.

Sean completed 3 years in Japan with the Kintetsu Liners and their promotion into the Top League, before returning to Sydney University this year.

He is a welcome addition to the IRAA team and will add another level of experience to our programs.
